By public transport it's ≈€4.70 and ≈90 min, two changes: metro to Cais do Sodré, then the train along the coast. Your options compared
| Option | Price | Time | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro + train | ≈€4.70 | ≈90 min, two changes | Change at Alameda (300 m and three flights of stairs), then at Cais do Sodré |
| Taxi | ≈€45–70 | ≈35–40 min | Outside arrivals; night tariff about 20% higher |
| Uber / Bolt | from ≈€25, more when busy | ≈35–40 min | Picks up from its own area, not the arrivals kerb |
| Pre-booked driver (GetVoolo estimate) | €42–€49 | ~35 min | Meets you in arrivals, door to door, no changes |
The public-transport price includes the reusable card (€0.50). GetVoolo instant prices are fixed when you book, tolls included; if you ask drivers for offers instead, they set the price.
By metro and train, step by step
- From arrivals, take the red metro line to Alameda.
- At Alameda, change to the green line. The change means about 300 m on foot and three flights of stairs or escalators — this is where suitcases hurt.
- Stay on the green line to Cais do Sodré, the end of the line.
- At Cais do Sodré, take the CP train on the Cascais line. By day there is one every 20 minutes, more at peak times. The ride takes about 40 minutes on faster trains and close to an hour on trains that stop everywhere.
- The train runs along the river and then the sea, stopping at Belém, Oeiras, Carcavelos, Estoril and Cascais, the end of the line.
You pay for the metro (€1.90) and the train (€2.55) separately, with the same reusable card.
If you land late
The last Cascais-line trains leave between about 00:30 and 01:30, but the metro stops around 01:00 — and it is what gets you from the airport to Cais do Sodré. If you land late, plan on a taxi, Uber/Bolt or a pre-booked driver. See arriving at Lisbon Airport late at night.
When a driver makes sense
- Big suitcases: you skip the changes at Alameda and Cais do Sodré.
- Children: you can request child seats when you book. See child car seats.
- An address away from the station: Quinta da Marinha, Areia or the hillside parts of Cascais and Estoril are a long way from the train.
- Travelling light, by day: the coastal train is cheap and beautiful. That’s what we’d suggest.
