Lisbon Airport to Ericeira

Updated · by GetVoolo, Lisbon

Short answer: Ericeira is about 46 km away, 35–45 minutes by car. There is no direct bus from the airport: take the metro to Campo Grande, then a Carris Metropolitana bus (≈€6.50, paid to the driver; the 2801 express takes about 45 minutes, the others 1 h–1 h 20). Board bags usually go in the luggage hold at no charge. A pre-booked driver takes you door to door with room for boards: GetVoolo estimate €50–€59 per car.

By metro and bus, step by step

  1. From arrivals, take the red metro line to Alameda and change to the green line for Campo Grande.
  2. The bus terminal is right outside Campo Grande station, opposite the Sporting stadium.
  3. Take a Carris Metropolitana bus to Ericeira: the 2801 (express, about 45 minutes, weekdays only and fewer runs in summer), the 2803 (via Mafra, about 1 hour) or the 2740 (via the A8, about 1 h 10–1 h 20).
  4. Buy the ticket from the driver. Buses arrive at Ericeira’s bus terminal, a 10–15-minute walk from the centre and the beaches.

Check times on carrismetropolitana.pt. The last buses leave around 23:00–midnight, but the metro closes around 01:00.

Travelling with a surfboard

  • On the buses, board bags usually go in the luggage hold at no extra charge. At rush hour or with several boards it can get harder.
  • On the metro, a long board between Alameda and Campo Grande is awkward, especially at rush hour.
  • When you book on GetVoolo, count each board bag in your luggage and choose the Van class for long boards: drivers see your luggage before they bid. Once a driver is assigned, you can message them about the boards.
  • Many surf camps run their own airport transfer: ask yours before you book.

When a driver makes sense

With boards, as a group (the price is per car), arriving late, or staying outside the village, a driver saves you the metro, the change and the walk from the terminal. Travelling light by day, the bus is cheap and simple.
